Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
The procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its further maintenance are described in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1. In particular, the different approval criteria needed for the different types of ISO documents should be noted. This document was drafted in accordance with the editorial rules of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2 (see www.iso.org/directives).
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. Details of any patent rights identified during the development of the document will be in the Introduction and/or on the ISO list of patent declarations received (see www.iso.org/patents).
Any trade name used in this document is information given for the convenience of users and does not constitute an endorsement.
For an explanation of the voluntary nature of standards, the meaning of ISO specific terms and expressions related to conformity assessment, as well as information about ISO's adherence to the World Trade Organization (WTO) principles in the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) see www.iso.org/iso/foreword.html.
This document was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 117, Fans.
This first edition cancels and replaces ISO 12759:2010, which has been technically revised. It also incorporates the Amendment ISO 12759:2010/Amd.1:2013.
A list of all parts in the ISO 12759 series can be found on the ISO website.
Any feedback or questions on this document should be directed to the user’s national standards body. A complete listing of these bodies can be found at www.iso.org/members.html.
Fans — Efficiency classification for fans —
Part 3:
Fans without drives at maximum operating speed
AMENDMENT 1
Clause 6
Fifth paragraph
Replace “A number of fixed efficiency grades are defined based on fan diameter and optimum efficiency.” with “A number of fixed efficiency grades are defined based on fan diameter and optimum efficiency calculated according to Annex A.”
Figure 3
Replace Figure 3 with following:
Key
d (lower scale) | fan size (mm) |
d (upper scale) | fan size in preferred numbers (mm) |
ηopt | optimum (peak) fan efficiency (%) |
NOTE 1 Fan size is the nominal impeller diameter.
NOTE 2 The optimum (peak) fan efficiency shall be calculated from the fan (total) pressure (see ISO 5801:2017, 3.50).
NOTE 3 The FEG label for a given fan size is assigned when the optimum (peak) fan efficiency is equal to or lower than the efficiency at the grade upper limit and higher than the efficiency at the grade lower limit for the fan size.
NOTE 4 No label is considered for fans with an optimum (peak) efficiency below FEG50.
NOTE 5 For any fan size larger than 1 000 mm the values of the grade limits are the same as for a fan size of 1 000 mm.
NOTE 6 If this method is used for a direct driven fan without the shaft and bearings integral to the fan, the fan efficiency is the impeller efficiency.

NOTE The fan sizes in bold print in this table are in the R20 series of preferred numbers (see ISO 13351). The values of efficiencies are calculated for fan sizes in the preferred numbers in the R40 series. a The optimum (peak) fan efficiency shall be calculated from the fan (total) pressure (see ISO 5801:2017, 3.50). b For any fan size larger than 1 000 mm, the values in the column for the size 1 000 mm apply. c The FEG for a given fan size is assigned, if the fan optimum (peak) efficiency is equal to or lower than the value of efficiency in the row for that grade and higher than the value of efficiency in the next row down. d No grade shall be considered for fans with optimum (peak) efficiency below FEG50. D: maximum impeller tip diameter, in millimetres. | |||||||||||||
A simple method of calculating the upper efficiency limit for an efficiency grade, NG, for those defined in Table A.2 is given in Formula (A.3).
